Dixie Paint & Body Shop is and has been a family-owned and operated business since 1926. The shop was originally opened by Giuseppe Traina, then preceded by his son Angelo Traina Sr. The shop was briefly closed during World War II, so Angelo could enlist in the Navy. While in the Navy, he served his country repairing and painting vehicles and airplanes. Angelo helped redesign the American emblem on the planes and repainted them so the Americans on the ground and at sea could tell the difference. At that time, the Japanese emblems on their planes looked almost the same from the ground and sea. The shop reopened after the war, and it was managed by Angelo Sr. with the help of his wife, Mary. In 1974, there was a major fire that destroyed the shop. With no insurance on the building and not wanting to give up on auto repairs, Angelo with the help of his employees built a shed to work out of, while a personal friend who was a contractor rebuilt the building. It took a year to finish the construction. Today, we work out of a modern building with state-of-the-art equipment, which we continue to upgrade. In 2007, we added a new environmental-friendly down draft spray booth. The shop is presently managed by Angelo’s son, Angelo Traina Jr.; Angelo Sr. stayed active in the business until his death in November of 2003 at the age of 89. Today, Mary continues to contribute her experience to the family business on a part-time basis.
